Being busy and keeping busy
12 July 2006I lied. I confess. A few months ago I wrote about how busy my week was. But the truth is that it is only an excuse. And as you know - there are no excuses. Sure my dog ate it. Sure there was a hurricane and then a volcano and then the sun was in my eyes. But the fect is that every one has a few minutes in their day to accomplish the little things. Details details details. So if you don’t do it today - the procrastinator says that he will do it tomorrow. And then tomorrow comes (and the sun does indeed come out) but you don’t do it. This is generally how I, (and my wife), and probably the rest of you over achievers feel as well. There is not enough time in the day to do everything you want to do because you want to do more than 24 hours worth.
So my thing was that I just needed to sleep less. And I was able to sleep less when I was younger and get more done. More writing, more running, more chess and hey - you know what’s missing? Family and work time. Basically when you are younger in your teens and 20’s, the world is yours. You don’t earn enough at work to make you work harder than 9-5 so you get home and watch lots of TV or you go out with your friends and “hang out.” Problem is when you want to have a family or make more money than the average 25 year old, you have to start investing time into your job, travel, commute, stay at the office on yet another project.
So now I have 2 kids and a wife and a business that I think about and try to work on 24/7. I have 1 business but many aspects of my business. Ecommerce www.JudaicaStore.com, Internet consulting http://www.InternetStrategyConsultant.com, and of course Website Marketing here in NY and around the world. With clients from California to Jerusalem, I work froom 7am till about 11PM.
But then how do I keep in shape. Well of course I need to go out for a run every once in a while. Back in 1995 1 of my sisters ran the NYC Marathon. That inspired me to train and I ran in 1997. In 1998 was the best cause I was still in my 20’s and had the experience from 97 so I just trained and trained and ran and completed in under 4 hours. Of course now I have my own company and stress and don’t get to train when I want to. I train when my schedule permits.
What’s my point? No point. Just keeping busy… Stay tuned for some real updates.
